Greetings

Established in 1971, A Growing Place has been a fixture in Novi for over 37 years.  As long time early childhood educators and professionals we have contributed to the development of literally thousands of children in our community.  This has been both an amazing experience and an incredible honor.

At A Growing Place, we have a special appreciation for how young children learn. We understand the magnitude of early education and the importance of a solid beginning.

We teach the children in our care by recognizing the following principles:

• The early years in a child's life greatly influence the child’s ability to reach his or her own potential. 

• A child's view of himself as a unique and competent individual, the choices he makes, and his approach to the various challenges in life, are all affected by his early experiences. 

• The family is the child’s primary source of information and guidance. 

• The family is the child's basis for emotional support and security.

• A quality preschool should enhance, support, and supplement this base. 

• Growth is developmental, each new stage and skill is built on the one before it. 

• The focus of a solid curriculum addresses the whole child.

• A balanced curriculum will include activities which promote motor skills, cognitive, social, emotional, and creative growth. 

• Balance is key.

• Children learn at their own pace and as educators we must be aware of this in our teaching. 

• Children learn through their play and through their interactions with the people and things around them. 

• Early learning is best supported with guidance and opportunity.

• A safe and nurturing environment will foster healthy development.

• It’s all about the child.
